Moving matters. The more I sit the worse off I am. I get sore. I’m less productive. I’m more tired. And, somehow, my pants shrink in the washing machine at a faster rate. It’s strange though, they don’t shrink in length—only around the waist. It must be a strange characteristic of the fabric.
When I move, almost everything improves. Mostly, I feel better—both my body and my mind. Are you the same way?
Certainly, rest is important. Downtime is a piece of the equation. But, for all of us, moving matters. And walking is among the best methods to keep moving. Walking is more than a matter of your physical health. It is a spiritual exercise too.
The Greek and Hebrew words for walk/go appear in scripture over 1,000 times. It was the primary method of transportation, of course. But it is also a central element in your life of faith. In short, faith moves. It doesn’t sit. It goes. Is your faith moving? Is it taking you places?
A faith that sits and waits for opportunities is different than a faith that moves and creates opportunities. I believe God is calling POP and God is calling you to be a faith that goes.
This is Abraham’s faith—Genesis 12. This is Moses’ faith—Exodus 3. This is the faith of Jesus—Matthew 28:19-20. A going faith is a growing faith. A going faith is a servant’s faith. A going faith is a vibrant faith. So…. let’s go!
As we step into the spring and look ahead to the summer, where will your feet take you? How will you ensure that faith goes with you as well? For your own growth, of course. But more importantly, so you can pass it on to others.
I believe we have turned witnessing and sharing your faith into a personal testimony of proselytizing others. “Let me tell you about Jesus and make you believe in him today.” Instead, a going faith leads with love.
Do you want to show others Jesus? Then love them. Go to them. Serve them. Come alongside them. Befriend them. And, not with an agenda. Not so you can get something from them. Not so you can bait and switch them. Jesus didn’t say “love others so you can convert them.” No. He said, “Love others.”
This summer we are continuing our tradition of going and loving. We will be loving and serving with hands and tools. We will be going to love and serve with games, crafts, and popsicles. We will keep moving in faith. Because our Lord is the Lord of the living water. And stagnant water, like stagnant faith, can get funky. So… Keep Moving!
