Jesus Promises his Kingdom to the Repentant Thief

Opening Prayer

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you; by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world. Help us to walk in your steps. Amen.

Reflection Questions

  1.  Reflect upon the confession: “since you are under the same condemnation.” What does this mean for you?
  2. Hear the promise of Christ to the thief as his promise to you–you will be with me in paradise. How does this promise make our current pain more manageable?
  3. Using the video below and the meditative song, let the plea of the criminal become your plea this day.

The Sacred Story

Luke 23:39-43

One of the criminals who were hanged railed at Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Jesus Remember Me

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, we give thanks for the power of your memory. Remember us, we pray, as you establish your kingdom on heaven and earth. Remember us, O Lord. Amen.
