The Feast of Epiphany is the celebration of the Magi who came to visit Jesus in Bethlehem. It celebrates two significant elements of the Incarnation of the Christ. First, that the light of the world has come. In Jesus darkness scatters and hope, joy, peace, and love are illuminated. In Jesus we have our road map for how to walk, live, breathe, and serve. In light of all that has transpired these last months and days, let us not only look to Jesus to deliver us from evil and our divisions but also walk on the Jesus way—live like Him and trust His example—as a faithful way to respond to tragic current events.
The second significant element of the Feast of Epiphany is, with the visit of the Magi, it becomes clear that Jesus is the King of kings, not for the nation of Israel alone. He has come to deliver, redeem, and claim every tribe, every tongue, and every nation. These Gentiles saw in the Babe of Bethlehem their hope and future. And we do as well. As we see the transfer of power take place, yet again, in our nation, the celebration of the Magi’s recognition of Jesus reminds us that our True Hope is found in the Prince of Peace.
From now until Ash Wednesday (2/17/21) our Sunday mornings will be anchored by hearing foundational Gospel stories from the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. As we hear stories and encounters from the first chapters of Mark and John, our hearts and minds are open to the ministry and insights of Jesus. These Gospel lessons will help build for us a trajectory of Discipleship and a path for growth. The Epiphany season will invite us into a deeper journey with Jesus.

As we go through this season, the Lord will reveal to us how faith is like a muscle. Growing in discipleship is like weight training—there are methods and ways to draw deeper into Christ. Trusting in the work of the Holy Spirit, and walking in step with the Word revealed to us, let’s encourage one another to deepen our
journey with Jesus in the days and weeks ahead. Happy Epiphany—the Light has come. May He shine bright on each of us and draw us closer to Him!
