Are you as tired of the word “unprecedented” as I am??? At every turn, when ever it comes up, it is clear that we are all fed up with 2020. We are ready to see it go! Sadly, the turning of the ones place on our yearly calendar doesn’t guarantee that things will change—at least not immediately. We are all tired—bone tired—of things being different, of events getting canceled, of everything changing because of COVID-19. Christmas at Prince of Peace is going to look different this year too. But, I couldn’t be more excited about it! This Christmas Eve come and worship with us!
That’s right! We are getting a giant canopy tent for the front lawn. Worship outside—so we are safe. With our animals (a touch of the familiar) but experienced in a different way. And a traditional worship service as well. Lots of details are below. But know this. December 24th at Prince of Peace is going to be an unforgettable night to close out a forgettable year.
We will have 3 worship experiences on Christmas Eve:
4-6pm A Living the Story Experience with Worship beginning at 5
Beginning at 4, smaller, socially distanced, groups will be invited to travel back in time to hear the story of our salvation told. Through vignettes, characters, and nativity animals, you will experience the Bible coming to life. You’ll travel back to Bethlehem, receive some delicious refreshments, and have the opportunity to reflect on this incredible faith we have been given. At 5 O’clock we will make our way to the big top where the worship service will continue with the animals, the shop keeper, and the unfolding of the story. Because we are outside, you don’t want to miss it—this may be your only chance to tip a lighted candle 🙂
8pm Worship with Communion and Candles
Join us for a traditional worship service. But, please, bundle up. Bring a blanket. Don’t wear your high heels—we don’t want you stuck in the grass. This will be a spectacular night. And we will carry on, rain or shine. Join us and make an adventure of this. The worship will be familiar. The setting will be different—but stunning. I can’t wait!
Online There will be two different digital worship opportunities
We will stream both worship opportunities. But we want to make sure we provide a quality worship experience for you as well. As such, there will be a fully digital worship experience on our website that will be posted the morning of December 24th. This service will hold many familiar elements as well as provide opportunity for some reflection questions.
An Important Word About Seating
As we continue to live and adapt in this pandemic reality, we will do our best to remain socially distanced during worship. Prince of Peace will provide a number of our metal chair that will be set up under the canopy in various number of pods. We also encourage you to bring a bag lawn chair for your family. We will be able to get a boat load of people under the canopy. However, depending on the number of people that join us for worship, we fully expect that not everyone will fit and we will spill out into the uncovered portions of the lawn. We will have circles painted on the lawn for families to sit together and we will trust everyone to be safe and Covid smart.
Join us for Christmas Eve Worship. It will be a blessed night as we continue to celebrate that the Prince of Peace has come near. So near that He resides within our hearts. I can’t wait to celebrate Christmas Under The Canopy with you!
